Unlike other data sets, ophthalmic patient data offers some of the most rich and expansive pieces of information. Not only are we able to better understand the eye through these data – it also provides a clearer window into the brain and body. Until recently, vast amounts of eye patient data were untapped. In 2018, Drs. Aaron and Cecilia, founded the Center for Computational Ophthalmology at the UW Medicine Department of Ophthalmology in order to leverage this rich information to innovate novel ways for treating and preventing binding-eye disease, and discover new connections between eye disease and other conditions.
